Pittwater is a racing sailor's perfect training ground. The steady easterly winds sweep over the Barrenjoey Penninsula filling sails but leaving seas only slightly ruffled.

Out the north end of the Pittwater the sailboats enter Broken Bay making a race track about 5 nautical miles long. A starboard tack in Broken Bay will take the racers right out into the open sea.
